2022 Projects

The Bossi Angel H92/93W26

In January of 2022, a pine tree snapped in the cold weather and broke one wing of this iconic Ross Bay Cemetery landmark. The wing broke into three pieces.

When the weather gets warmer, (hopefully in July) we will erect scaffolds around the statue and carefully repair the damage.

Gray Fence Restoration U82E47

This beautiful iron fence was bent and broken by a fallen tree branch a number of years ago. This year we will partially remove it, have the bent section repaired, re-center the corner blocks and replace most of the bolts holding it together. Once the repairs are completed, the fence will be painted.

The Bannister Grave P126/127WP

This grave with unique hexagon ceramic tiles was covered in pitch from the overhanging pine tree. The tree has caused the curbing and tiled top to shift and crack. The curb shifting had allowed grass to grow up on the perimeter and the cracking of the top damaged some tiles and loosened others. Some tiles were missing completely, in particular the small 1 inch by 1 inch black accent tiles.

Over the years, the old cemeteries society has been diligent to removing loose tiles from graves around the cemetery and has keep them in storage. Our hope always, is that we can one day restore these grave sites.

The Procedure

First, we removed the accumulated pitch, removed all loose tiles, cleaned the all the removed tiles and power washed the surface. The surface was then filled and leveled to insure a good surface for the re-installation of the tiles. The cracks and voids between the curbing and the grave top were also filled with cement to prevent new grass from growing. Our stored inventory was searched to find as many matching tiles as possible.

The tiles were then re-installed. New tiles were cut as needed to replace missing ones. Once dry, the whole plot was grouted and sealed.
