21. Samuel Booth
This one is very hard to find, the grass has grown over the fallen marker, and weather has made the writing difficult to read. It lies next to the monument that marks the graves of Samuel’s children and family.
1826-1917
Block: G
Plot: 51 E 9

Prospector
Samuel Booth was one of four Black men who formed a company to mine gold at Leechtown (Leech River) in 1864. Almost immediately Booth found a gold nugget as big as a hen’s egg. The nugget was displayed for several days at the Wells Fargo office. Samuel Booth became a British subject in order to vote.
