Songhees Chief 1864-1892

James Squameyuqs or Chief Jim was born in 1797. His name in the Lekwungen language means Grand Fir Tree. In 1864 he became the second Chief of the Songhees First Nation Reserve then located in the Victoria Harbour, opposite downtown Victoria. He died of Tuberculosis on September 12, 1892.
